The Wreck of the Delaware

Long, long ago there was a lady called Huria. She was in her house on a very stormy day. The wind was howling and the sea was in a frenzy. Then she loked out of her window and she saw a boat was in trouble. It was called the Delaware. She went out and told the village.
Henry Squirrell, one of the people on the ship knew everyone was in danger so he offered to tie the rope round his tummy and swim to shore. He jumped off the ship but he got smashed against the rocks, unconscious, so all the men hauled him in. The captain lay him down on one of the bunks.
One of the sailors had a good idea to throw a rope to the shore. It took many tries but Huria jumped into the water with her companions. One of them was very strong so he tied the rope around his tummy and swam to shore then tied it on a rock. All the men went arm to leg. Suddenly a wave came. It would plunge them into the water but it was an awfully long way. The men could not make it so Hemi and Huria dived in and swam t shore with the men. The captain was the last to get off but first he had to check on Henry so he did. Henry was still knocked out so the captain started climbing on the rope then suddenly the rope snapped. Huria jumped into the water and saved him.
When they got to shore they were surprised enough to see Henry Squirrell calling for help but no one wanted to go out and save him because the storm had got even worse so they were sadly watching their friend die.
The next day Huria and Hemi got watches for what they had done.

In some countries of the world children don’t have the same rights as us. I think everyone should have good care like we do at Nelson Central School. Some countries don’t have enough mosquito nets for everyone. Sometimes people have to die from malaria and every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria.

We have been learning about the children of Kroo Bay. Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. In Kroo Bay not everyone has good medical care because there is not enough medicine for people to survive.

In Kroo Bay they have a river but it floods with rubbish because it is polluted. They put sandbags on the side of the river to stop it from flowing through their houses.

Save the children helps children all over the world. I would like to buy the mosquito net from the Save the Children Wish List. It will save children’s lives.

So tell your friends and family to buy something from the S
ave the Children Wish List. It will change children’s lives.

How to Make a Fossil

Fossils are and unique very expensive to buy.

If you would like to make one you will need:

Shells,

Plaster of Paris,

A bit of bendy wire,

Clay,

Black paint,

An old cloth,

Gold spray paint,

A small plastic container.

Here is how to make a fossil.

First press clay in your container about 1½cm thick.

Next press your shells in your clay and take them out.

After that twist a piece of bendy wire into a loop.

Then ask a parent to mix plaster of Paris and pour it

on your clay with the loop.

Now you have to wait for a couple of weeks. When it’s dry, push it out of your container and dry the top.

A few days after that spray paint it gold then let it dry for two days.

Finally paint it black and gently rub the black paint off.
